Porcupine Tree's show in Chicago on 11th October will be filmed for the band's first official DVD release in 2006. This DVD is planned to be a combination of live performance and a full length documentary on the band that Lasse Hoile has been filming over the last few years. For the occassion the band have taken the opportunity to dust down a few pieces from their back catalogue (including at least one song from the very distant past), as well as several more recent tracks which have not been performed live before. This new repertoire will be performed throughout the forthcoming US/Canada and European tour, not just for the DVD, but Chicago should prove to be a very special night.

Well it is a re-release of "Live In America" and "Building the Bridge" on DVD! But, people have been asking for them to be re-released. What about if we include a bonus DVD with tons of never-before-seen live and backstage "on the road" footage? Different than what is on the Europe DVD. I have hours of footage Neal shot on his camcorder of the guys backstage over the whole BAF tour. Hilarious stuff!!! Again, never-before-seen. Like Neal trying to teach Mike how not to say the F-word. And the band arguing over doing an encore or not. Neal laying down songs he just thought of while on tour. And then a ton of live footage shot by fans from the front row!! Plus, we could add more BAF studio footage, not in the original docu. And Neal told me today, he has even more stuff to send me!! Did I mention though, that Roine is re-mastering the audio to the Live in Amercia show? Or did I mention we have footage of Mike stage diving? I will be recording my drums this weekend.
Initially I wasn't going to partake in the album and had passed on the offer, but I guess the moral of the story is: "never say never" (wait, I just did!!)

Other important points:
- The band is MUCH happier with the first night than with the second. I would expect the DVD to be mostly the first night's snow. The only exceptions (and this is my speculation) will be that Even Less, Shesmovedon, and Deadwing from night two will make the cut (with odds of making it in that order!).
- The DVD will be different from the standard concert DVD that most bands produce. No word yet how, but SW has repeatedly said it will be "something special".
- The DVD will include the documentary that Lasse Holie has been working on for several tours now. Expect this to be in-depth, and *@#$^&% awesome
- SW has said that the band would like to tour in support of the DVD next spring!!

Following Derek Sherinian's recent tour with Billy Idol he is back in the studio working in his fifth solo release. The work is as yet untitled but is being recorded at Derek's own Beachwood Manor Studios in Burbank, California. It is hoped that it will be released worldwide around the June 2006 mark. Derek has brought back together several of the players that worked towards the success of last's years Mythology album which include Zakk Wylde, John Petrucci, Steve Lukather, Simon Phillips, Tony Franklin, Brian Tichy and other surprise special guests. Of the inclusion of Zakk, Derek said " this is the fourth solo record of mine that Zakk has played on, and he goes beyond the call of duty for me every time - he is the real deal and I am very fortunate to be able to work with him".  http://www.dprp.net/news/index.php |
